FENOMENO ROADSTER: THE MOST POWERFUL OPEN-TOP EVER CREATED BY LAMBORGHINI
In the world of ultra-exclusive supercars, there are machines that push boundaries, and then there are machines that seem determined to obliterate them entirely. The new Fenomeno Roadster from Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A. firmly belongs to the latter category.
Unveiled during the second edition of the Lamborghini Arena at Imola, the Fenomeno Roadster is more than simply the roofless evolution of the already outrageous Fenomeno Coupé introduced in 2025. It is Lamborghini’s most powerful open-top production car ever created, a 1080 CV V12 hybrid masterpiece limited to just 15 units worldwide. That number alone instantly guarantees exclusivity, but the Fenomeno Roadster is not merely rare — it is engineered to be remembered.
In typical Lamborghini fashion, the new roadster arrives with dramatic intent. It combines electrified performance, aerospace-inspired engineering and theatrical design into a machine that feels closer to a rolling science-fiction concept than a homologated road car. Yet beneath its futuristic silhouette lies something deeply rooted in Lamborghini tradition: a naturally aspirated V12 heart and an obsession with emotional driving experiences.
For Lamborghini, the Fenomeno Roadster is not simply another halo model. It is a statement about the future of performance, the future of hybridisation and perhaps most importantly, the future of desire itself.
THE NAME SAYS EVERYTHING
Lamborghini’s history of naming cars after legendary bulls continues with “Fenomeno,” a word that translates to “phenomenal” in both Italian and Spanish. It is an appropriately dramatic name for a car that exists at the intersection of art, engineering and insanity.
According to Stephan Winkelmann, President and CEO of Lamborghini, the Fenomeno Roadster represents the “purest expression” of the brand’s core values — visionary design, uncompromising performance and absolute exclusivity.
And exclusivity is certainly central to the car’s identity. With only 15 examples scheduled for production, each unit will effectively become a collectible sculpture capable of exceeding 340 km/h while simultaneously turning every fuel station into an impromptu motor show.
This is the sort of vehicle destined for climate-controlled garages, private collections and elite concours events. Yet despite its rarity, Lamborghini insists the Fenomeno Roadster is engineered first and foremost as a driver’s car — one designed to deliver a visceral and unforgettable experience every time the ignition awakens its electrified V12 symphony.
THE MOST POWERFUL OPEN-TOP LAMBORGHINI EVER
At the core of the Fenomeno Roadster sits a masterpiece of mechanical engineering: Lamborghini’s first V12 hybrid High Performance Electrified Vehicle powertrain configured for an open-top two-seater.
The numbers are staggering.
Its naturally aspirated 6.5-litre V12 produces 835 CV at a screaming 9,250 rpm and 725 Nm of torque at 6,750 rpm. On its own, that would already place the engine among the most ferocious powerplants ever built by Lamborghini.
But the Fenomeno Roadster does not stop there.
Three electric motors — two mounted at the front axle and one positioned above the eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox — work in harmony with the combustion engine to elevate total system output to a colossal 1080 CV.
The result is performance bordering on absurdity.
The Fenomeno Roadster launches from 0-100 km/h in just 2.4 seconds, reaches 200 km/h in a scarcely believable 6.8 seconds and continues beyond 340 km/h. These are hypercar figures delivered by an open-top machine designed not only for track dominance, but for sensory immersion.
Yet what makes the Fenomeno particularly fascinating is how Lamborghini integrates electrification without diluting character. Unlike many modern hybrid performance cars that prioritise silent efficiency, Lamborghini uses electrification as an amplifier for emotion.
The electric motors contribute torque vectoring, regenerative braking and enhanced responsiveness, while the naturally aspirated V12 remains firmly at centre stage. It is a reassuring reminder that even as the automotive world shifts toward electrification, Lamborghini still understands the emotional importance of a screaming twelve-cylinder engine.
There is also a 7 kWh lithium-ion battery enabling fully electric driving capability — though one suspects most owners will be far more interested in hearing the V12 erupt into life beneath the transparent engine cover.
ENGINEERED LIKE A FIGHTER JET
Building a roofless supercar capable of such performance presents immense engineering challenges. Removing a fixed roof naturally compromises structural rigidity, yet Lamborghini claims the Fenomeno Roadster achieves nearly identical stiffness levels to the Coupé while adding only minimal extra weight.
That achievement stems largely from its advanced multi-technology carbon fibre chassis.
The car utilises a monofuselage structure inspired by aerospace engineering and derived from technologies used in the Lamborghini Revuelto. Rather than relying on a conventional monocoque layout, Lamborghini integrates front crash structures, side skirts, windshield frame and bulkheads into an ultra-lightweight carbon structure using Forged Composite® technology.
The combination of long and short carbon fibres with a patented fluid mixture allows exceptional rigidity while improving energy absorption during impacts.
In simpler terms, the Fenomeno Roadster is engineered to feel razor-sharp and structurally solid despite lacking a roof — no small feat for a car capable of cornering, accelerating and braking at extreme levels.
The chassis is complemented by manually adjustable racing shock absorbers, allowing owners to fine-tune ride height and suspension settings for either road driving or circuit use. Lamborghini’s focus here is clear: this is not merely a luxury speedster designed for boulevard cruising. It is intended to perform seriously on track.
Braking performance is equally extreme thanks to the CCM-R Plus carbon-ceramic braking system, derived directly from motorsport technologies. Featuring a three-dimensional carbon-fibre structure and advanced cooling ventilation, the system ensures stable and consistent stopping power even under relentless high-speed driving conditions.
OPEN-TOP AERODYNAMICS WITHOUT COMPROMISE
Designing a roadster capable of matching the aerodynamic performance of its coupé sibling is notoriously difficult. Without a roofline to manage airflow, turbulence and instability can quickly become problematic at high speeds.
Lamborghini’s engineers tackled this challenge by redesigning multiple aerodynamic surfaces specifically for the Fenomeno Roadster.
One of the most striking additions is an aerodynamic spoiler mounted atop the windshield. This elegant carbon-fibre element directs airflow smoothly over the cockpit and channels cooling air efficiently toward the engine bay.
The result is remarkably clever. Even without the Coupé’s roof-mounted air scoop, the V12 receives sufficient cooling while turbulence within the cabin is significantly reduced.
Equally challenging were the rollover protection bars. Typically bulky and intrusive in appearance, Lamborghini integrated the carbon-fibre rollover structures as elegantly as possible behind the seats, blending them seamlessly into the sculptural speedster humps.
Functionally, they improve aerodynamic efficiency while minimising wind noise. Visually, they enhance the car’s dramatic silhouette.
The overall aerodynamic package allows the Fenomeno Roadster to achieve downforce, stability and balance levels comparable to the Coupé — a remarkable accomplishment considering the absence of a roof.
DESIGN THAT LOOKS LIKE IT MOVES EVEN WHEN PARKED
If there is one thing Lamborghini rarely struggles with, it is visual drama.
The Fenomeno Roadster immediately commands attention through its impossibly low stance, razor-sharp lines and sculptural bodywork. Yet unlike some overly aggressive hypercars, its design appears carefully curated rather than chaotic.
According to Lamborghini Design Director Mitja Borkert, the project embraces the “feel like a pilot” philosophy while celebrating the creativity of Lamborghini Centro Stile.
The front fascia is dominated by wide air intakes, sharp geometric forms and Lamborghini’s signature hexagonal motifs. From the side, deeply sculpted flanks channel airflow toward the engine while visually elongating the silhouette.
The rear section perhaps delivers the greatest theatrical impact. Inspired by the Essenza SCV12 and 1970s racing prototypes, it combines a massive diffuser, active rear wing and high-mounted hexagonal exhaust into a design that appears simultaneously futuristic and brutally functional.
Particularly fascinating is Lamborghini’s treatment of the engine bay. Through visual trickery and careful surfacing, the design creates the illusion that the powertrain is floating behind the occupants.
It is an intentional celebration of the V12 itself — a reminder that the engine remains the emotional centrepiece of the entire car.
The transparent engine cover, framed by hexagonal air intakes and Y-shaped motifs, transforms the mechanical components into rolling artwork.
And then there is the paintwork.
Finished in striking Blu Cepheus with Rosso Mars accents, the Fenomeno Roadster becomes one of the most visually vibrant limited-edition Lamborghinis ever created. The colour combination pays tribute to Bologna’s historic red-and-blue colours while also referencing the iconic 1968 Miura Roadster.
Subtle? Absolutely not.
Memorable? Undeniably.
A COCKPIT INSPIRED BY MOTORSPORT
Inside, the Fenomeno Roadster continues Lamborghini’s obsession with aviation-inspired design.
The cockpit is dominated by carbon fibre, Corsatex by Dinamica upholstery and Lamborghini’s patented Carbon Skin material. Hexagonal graphics appear throughout the digital displays and air vents, reinforcing the brand’s signature design language.
The “Pilot Interaction” concept integrates three digital screens with tactile controls and aircraft-inspired switches, allowing drivers to access key vehicle functions without distraction.
Importantly, Lamborghini has not sacrificed ergonomics for spectacle. The deeply contoured seats provide substantial support during aggressive cornering while remaining visually dramatic.
Every element of the cabin feels focused on enhancing the driving experience. There are no unnecessary luxury flourishes or excessive distractions. Instead, the interior creates the sensation of sitting within a futuristic fighter jet designed exclusively for speed.
ADVANCED VEHICLE DYNAMICS
Managing over 1,000 horsepower in an open-top supercar requires an extraordinary level of electronic sophistication.
At the centre of the Fenomeno Roadster’s vehicle dynamics system is a new 6D sensor positioned near the car’s centre of gravity. Working alongside the Integrated Power Brake control unit, the sensor measures acceleration, pitch, yaw and roll in real time.
This allows the vehicle to continuously calculate tyre grip levels, side-slip angles and overall stability conditions.
In practical terms, the system constantly predicts and adjusts the car’s behaviour to maximise performance and control.
It is the kind of advanced computational capability once reserved for Formula One machinery — now embedded within a road-legal Lamborghini capable of navigating both racetracks and city streets.
BESPOKE BRIDGESTONE PERFORMANCE
No hypercar is complete without equally specialised tyres, and Lamborghini’s technical partner Bridgestone Corporation has developed bespoke Potenza tyres specifically for the Fenomeno Roadster.
The custom Potenza Sport tyres are engineered to maximise high-speed stability, steering precision and overall grip. Sized at 265/30 ZRF21 at the front and 355/25 ZRF22 at the rear, they are available with Bridgestone’s Run-Flat Technology for added practicality.
For customers intending to exploit the car’s full circuit potential, Bridgestone has also developed a next-generation semi-slick tyre inspired by motorsport technology while remaining fully road legal.
Interestingly, the tyres were developed using Bridgestone’s Virtual Tire Development technology, significantly reducing material usage and CO2 emissions during development — a subtle but important nod toward sustainability within the hypercar world.
CONTINUING THE FEW-OFF LEGACY
The Fenomeno Roadster joins an illustrious bloodline of Lamborghini Few-Off creations.
This lineage began with the Reventón in 2007, followed by iconic limited-edition machines such as the Veneno, Centenario and Sián — all of which later received dramatic Roadster variants.
These vehicles have always served two purposes. First, they act as ultra-exclusive collector pieces designed for Lamborghini’s most elite customers. Second, they function as technological laboratories, introducing ideas and engineering solutions that later influence mainstream Lamborghini production cars.
The Fenomeno Roadster continues that tradition brilliantly.
It is simultaneously a showcase of Lamborghini’s future electrified direction and a celebration of everything enthusiasts love about the brand: naturally aspirated V12 engines, outrageous styling, uncompromising performance and theatrical emotion.
In many ways, the Fenomeno Roadster feels like Lamborghini distilled into its purest possible form.
It is loud, dramatic, technically fascinating and gloriously excessive.
And perhaps that is precisely why only 15 people on Earth will be lucky enough to own one.
